10 Best Treks in Himachal Pradesh

The grand Himalayas of India, ‘Himachal Pradesh,’ is well known for its outstanding diversity of landscapes. Trekking, in this place, is one of the most critical challenges you can take in your life. 1. Kheerganga Trek

Kheerganga, listed amongst most excellent Treks in India, is located deep in Parvati Valley (Kullu Valley) and is perched at an altitude of approximately 2950m. To reach Kheerganga from Delhi, one should first reach Bhuntar, where you can take a Volvo bus that leaves from ISBT Kashmere Gate. All the Volvos and cars from Delhi leave in the evening and arrive Bhuntar at around 5 to 7 am. Ask the bus to drop you nearby the Bhuntar bus stand, then catch a bus to Barshaini.

There are three trekking routes from Barshaini to go to Kheerganga. The distance from any of the ways is around 9- 10 km and can be covered in no more than 5 to 6 hours if you take only a couple of short breaks.

The best time for the Kheerganga Trek is from May to June and September to October.

2. Prashar Lake Trek

The Prashar Lake in Mandi is a hidden gem that most visitors of the region are unaware of. Imagine the expansive green meadows with snow-covered peaks visible on the horizon. And the deep blue water of the high-altitude lake makes the scenery just perfect!

There are two routes to reach Parashar Lake (from Baggi and Jawalpur village). Comparatively, the trek through Baggi village is challenging than Jwalapur village. Provided that you go from Baggi village, you can take a bus to Mandi from Delhi, which is usually a 12hours journey. Then, you can hire a taxi from Mandi to Baggi. The trek will often take about 4 – 5 hours.

This place is accessible all year round.

3. Chandratal Baralacha Trek

Chandratal(Chandra River), the name of the lake is originated from its crescent shape. The moment you start trekking here, it feels like walking on the moon. You can enjoy the mesmerizing and utmost beautiful view of the high peaks and Baralacha glacier, which is amongst the sources of the Chandra River.

Similarly, you can stroll on the ice land and witness the glistening sunset, lush green landscape, water streams, colorful orchids, and various other things that will make your journey beautiful and the trip unforgettable.

The trek starts from Batal, which is around 120 kilometers of a drive from Manali. You can reach Manali from Delhi by Bus which will take approximately 12 – 14 hours.

The finest time to undertake this trek is between July and October. 

4. Hampta Pass Trek

Hampta Pass village is named from the Hamta Village located in the Pir Panjal region. The trekkers get enchanted with the hypnotizing beauty of this place filled with lush green meadows, snow-capped mountains in the backdrop, and a wide variety of flora and fauna.

Similarly, the place is surrounded by glaciers, rivers, jagged mountains, and meadows. Hampta Pass trek is one of the toughest treks in Himachal Pradesh. Therefore, you cannot venture on this trek without the Himachal Pradesh trekking map.

The nearest station is Manali. Generally, you can reach Manali from Delhi by bus, which takes around 12-14 hours.

The right time to trek to Hampta Pass is from mid-June to mid-October.

5. Pin Parvati Pass Trek

Pin Parvati will be an excellent option for trekking junkies who are looking for tough treks in Himachal. The trek is not ideal for beginners as the trail is steep and very challenging.

There are massive mountain ranges that form prominent trekking places. Likewise, the trekkers can witness the spectacular view of the Pin Parvati Pass, catch glimpses of Hindu Khir Ganga and wildlife sanctuary Kanwar.

Generally, this place has continuous rain and snowfall, which makes the trekking a bit difficult.

The trek starts from Phulga Village, which can be reached through the bus from Bhuntar bus stand. You can reach Bhuntar from Manali by plane or by bus.

The only time to go for Pin Parvati trek is between June and September for the best experiences.

6. Bhrigu Lake Trek

Bhrigu Lake trek is amongst the best summer treks in Himachal Pradesh, where you will get an ultimate high. It is the only Himalayan trek where you get to reach such a remarkable place in just two days. This place has gained preference due to its full display of natural extravaganza and is one of the easy Treks in the Himalayas.

Similarly, the scenic Bhrigu lake has noteworthy historical and religious significance.

The best time for Bhrigu Lake trek is either before June or after July – August.

The best time to trek to Deo Tibba Base Camp is between May to October.

8. Triund Trek

Triund Trek is best for those who want to trek solo in Himachal. Triund is a small vacation spot and hill station in the district of Kangra in the state of Himachal Pradesh, which is a vast land of green grass.

Triund Trek is famous among trekkers that want to go for a trek at the weekend and see some stunning views. The trekking trail is easy, even for beginners. Besides, if you’re going to trek longer, you can go to Kareri Lake, where you can see rock-cut caves.

Trek to Triund hill starts from Dharmkot, Mcleodganj, which can be reached from Delhi by bus within 11 to 12 hours.

Triund hill can be gone for trekking between March to June and September to mid-December.

9. Chandrakhani Pass Trek

At the height of 3660m located in the Kullu valley, one can witness the glorious view of Deo Tibba and Pirpanjal ranges. There is a legend that a powerful wind blew the Gods all over Kullu valley, and people can find them today at their respective temples.

Generally, it is one of the moderate and low altitude treks in Himachal Pradesh, and even the beginners can trek here.

The trek commences from Manali and then to Celanti to reach Chandrakhani Pass. Manali can be reached from Delhi by bus within 12 – 14 hours.

June to October is the right time to trek to Chandrakhani Pass.

10. Sar Pass Trek

Sar Pass Trek is the favorite of the adventurous souls who like snow and high mountains in the Kullu region. The place offers a bewitching view of Himalayas and has a maximum altitude of 14,000ft.

Also, you can witness pine forest, mesmerizing alpine meadows, quaint villages, snow-covered mountains, and some of the most remarkable landscapes, making it very welcoming to beginners.

For the best season, March to April will be the best time. However, to enjoy the campsite full of snow, we recommend the months of April.
